Julio Le Parc exhibition at the House of Latin America
6
Listen! Your phone rings. On the line, Julio Le Parc, one of the most famous artists of kinetic art, is drawing. Imagine his pencil strokes running across the sheet: sometimes poetic, sometimes frenetic, his drawings have in common with his other works a keen sense of movement. Perhaps he adds color, he who masters it so well. Or perhaps you will catch him, smiling, sketching one of his caricatures with finesse and incisive humor. You will then discover, certainly for the first time, the political activism of this tireless creator. Julio Le Parc may even tell you an anecdote or two about his participation in the protest movements of May 1968 (which resulted in his being expelled from France for five months). Listen, and perhaps he will invite you to his exhibition, Drawings on the telephone or not, presenting in particular his drawings made over the telephone and freehand. There you will find an art in constant movement, and a practice of drawing whose limits he has continued to push. You will also be able, thanks to the presentation of a large new mobile illustrating his research on space, light and movement, to understand more about the plural genius of Julio Le Parc.
