Old woman's money at the Théâtre Libre

She is extremely rich, odious, manipulative and terribly evil... In a word: irresistible. For her big return to the stage, singer, actress and presenter Amanda Lear has set her sights on the iconic Italian comedy Old Woman's Money. A scathing vaudeville in which the actress lends her features as well as her deep and sensual voice to a billionaire with an explosive temperament. Cynical to the tips of her nails, this black widow all in rhinestones and sequins puts her fortune at belote into play every year by promising wealth to anyone who manages to beat her. But is the game really worth it?
No doubt possible. The star is her. As soon as she (flamboyantly) enters the stage, Amanda Lear triggers thunderous applause. The countess is served, the public only sees her. Everyone came to greet and cheer her. That’s good, the actress is there. Dress in rhinestones and cigarette in her mouth, the actress comfortably seated on a golden wheelchair leads the dance, masterfully directing this deliciously cruel piece. Each of these acidic replies hits the mark and punctuates the cadence of laughter in the room. If she largely eclipses her opponents, Amanda Lear can count on the boundless energy of her playing partners: Anastasia, a revolutionary servant who is a little awkward but who "limps very well" according to her boss; Georges, a butler a little too devoted not to seem interested; Pierrette and Maurice finally, a not very smart couple in debt and incidentally parents of Anastasia.
For an hour and a half, the actors move around, enduring the hostess's murderous criticism before moving on to scenes at breakneck speed. To the music of Pink Floyd or ABBA, Amanda Lear shines and seems to take great pleasure in fooling us. Impossible to resist her charm and her parade of sophisticated outfits, we in turn fall into her net. Amanda Lear also led us, but one thing is certain: we got our money's worth.
