Foreigners in the Resistance in France exhibition at the Shoah Memorial
6
More invested than ever in the French resistance, foreigners have continued to get involved in the armed struggle and in political action. Thus, it is quite natural that the Shoah Memorial decided to pay tribute to these men and women of courage, through this large-scale exhibition, highlighting posters, portraits and handwritten letters. Whether they are naturalized or foreign, Spanish or Italian, Armenian or Central European Jew, what is striking about these fighters is their convergence within the homeland. They thereby demonstrate their attachment to the values of human rights.
Did you know?
Foreign resistance fighters got involved in various forms: integration into the French Forces, armed struggle, underground press, or even intelligence. In total, in 1940, more than
8,000 foreigners are sent to the front.
