The MET exhibition at the Louvre museum - Dialogues of oriental antiquities
10
Keep your eyes peeled. Ten treasures from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York have slipped into the collections of the Louvre. Between the most complete Babylonian code of Mesopotamia and the protective geniuses of the Assyrian Empire, perhaps you will linger on this majestic copper alloy head more than 4000 years old, on this richly decorated ceremonial ax or on this Iranian statuette dates from the proto-Elamite era, more than 3300 years before our era. Exchanges and correspondence punctuate this oriental dialogue, while a foundation nail in the shape of a roaring lion meets its New York twin here. This rapprochement between two invaluable collections allows us to lift the veil on the so-called Dilbat cache, a set of precious objects, composed of ornaments, pendants and pearls, presented for the first time in its entirety.
