Our images from the Ellsworth Kelly exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation
LOUIS VUITTON FOUNDATION
From May 7 to September 9, 2024
Straight lines, geometric shapes, clean contours and dazzling colors... Ellsworth Kelly, the master of geometric abstraction and minimalist expressionism across the Atlantic, poses his brushes at the Louis Vuitton Foundation{ 3} almost 10 years after his disappearance. Still little exhibited in France, this titan of American painting transforms the white walls and immaculate architecture of the foundation into a succession of monumental canvases in electrifying hues. The opportunity to dive head first into the magnetic work of this daring colorist who cultivated a fierce independence throughout his life, and to detect each nuance of his monochromes made of red, yellow, blue, green and purple. Meditative in essence, the exhibition brings us face to face with his enigmatic Tableau Vert, the first monochrome produced after his visit to Giverny, before revealing to us in the Auditorium the last commission created by Ellsworth Kelly during his lifetime. Other paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and collages shed light on the brilliant career and exceptional longevity of this US Army soldier who dreamed of being a painter and got his wish in Paris.
