Exhibition Ô sport of the Games for Gods at the Muséoparc Alésia
Museopark of Alésia - Alise-Sainte-Reine (Center)
Until November 30, 2024
Centuries before Jesus Christ, at the foot of Mount Cronion, the Olympic Games were placed under the watchful eye of Zeus. Millennia later, despite a vast ellipse, the ultimate athletic meeting is still relevant today. Based on rich iconographic and archaeological research, the exhibition reveals the link between sport and the gods. A true immersion in ancient Greece, cradle of the Olympic Games. The visitor is invited to observe the thread that links the trials of the modern era to those of Antiquity, in a route strewn with statues, vases, tools and coins. Perhaps from their clouds, the gods intend to observe the next games!
Did you know? The Olympic flame is not a modern invention. Although the first appeared for the 1928 Summer Games, it is actually an old Greek tradition. During Antiquity, a flame, a symbol of purity and attempts to achieve perfection, was lit by the sun and burned until the end of the games.
