The exhibition Artists’ Objects: Ingres and Delacroix at the Ingres Bourdelle Museum
Ingres Bourdelle Museum
From July 11 to November 10, 2024
In art, everything is sometimes just a question of details. The Ingres Bourdelle Museum, the only museum in the world dedicated to the father of the Grande Odalisque, understood this well by inviting us to open the doors of this intimate exhibition to discover the treasures hidden there. More than the shapes and colors, the monumental canvases and historical paintings, the museum draws our attention to these precious objects which were once part of the daily life of the prince of artists and the most fiery painter of the 19th century. Pieces of furniture, laurel wreaths, Greek vases, antique casts, musical instruments, newspaper clippings and palettes still full of colors... Added to his curiosities are those of his great rival, Eugène Delacroix, with his tobacco pots in the shape of of fish, his trinkets with shimmering patterns and his souvenirs brought back from his trip to Morocco. So many objects, witnesses of their personal tastes, their hobbies and their creative process, whose only common point is to have belonged to two of the greatest French painters. An intimate exhibition to understand the personality of these two greatest enemies.
