Henri Martin and Henri Le Sidaner exhibition at the Palais Lumière in Évian
Palais Lumière
Until January 5, 2025
Under the soft and captivating light of the Palais Lumière in Évian, a historic encounter is brewing between two emblematic figures of the Belle Époque: Henri Martin and Henri Le Sidaner. These two artists, linked by an unwavering friendship and a poetic vision of nature, are brought together for the first time in Europe since their death, in an exhibition which celebrates their contribution to the intimate movement, the last major movement in French art dedicated to nature. Through one hundred and twenty carefully selected works, we are invited on a journey across France, from landscapes bathed in southern light to peaceful scenes in the North. With his vibrant palette, Henri Martin transports us to the sunny gardens of Labastide-du-Vert and the poetic landscapes of Collioure, passing through his large settings, masterfully combining the intimate and the monumental. Facing him, Henri Le Sidaner invites us on a gentle stroll through his Gerberoy paintings, between secret gardens and cozy interiors, in silent scenes where time seems suspended. Far from the tumults of the avant-garde, their art is part of a renewed tradition, creating masterpieces of rare sensitivity.
