Discover the immersive exhibition Decoding Korea, at the Grand Palais Immersive!
Grand Immersive Palace
From July 26 to August 25, 2024
An immersive journey through the history of Korean society? This is the incredible experience that The Grand Palais Immersive is offering this summer!
From memories of war to ecological crises, this journey retraces the long history of Korea. Between mapping, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, eleven contemporary artists use digital tools to tell us about their country. Through basic themes such as power, borders or cohabitation, these artists dissect modern Korean society, including an understanding of its past. From this perspective, some materialize collective memory and make it a visual reality. Technology then becomes a medium allowing us to understand a unique and indescribable lived experience. Kwon Hayoun offers us a fascinating example of this phenomenon in “489 years”. With this 3D animation, Hayoun immerses us in the memories of a soldier who served in the demilitarized zone, between North and South Korea. This border, a source of inspiration for many artists, is not the only one explored in this exhibition. With “Angel Soldier”, Lee Yongbaek criticizes the border between good and evil, Ram Han blurs the line between real and imaginary by inviting spectators to virtually simulate the act of eating, while “Inside Dream” plunges us into the personal dreams of the artist, making us voyeurs of the unconscious of another.
Bold, creative and sensitive, this breathtaking experience offers us a personal, captivating and multiple vision of Korea, opening a fascinating field of possibilities for its future.
