Stan Douglas exhibition, Parallax, at the Jeu de Paume
JEU DE PAUME
From October 20, 2026 to January 10, 2027
Nothing that Stan Douglas photographs actually took place in front of his lens: at the Jeu de Paume, the Canadian artist creates the missing images of history.
Stan Douglas reconstructs. The Canadian artist reenacts vanished scenes—riots, ballrooms, street corners—with extras, sets, and the precision of an archivist, then photographs or films them as if we were there. The Jeu de Paume is dedicating its most important French monograph to him in thirty years, a work that bridges photography and cinema. The title, Parallax, refers to the discrepancy between two points of view on the same object: this is precisely what his work creates, and what it makes us feel.
