The Feasts of Chambord exhibition at the Château de Chambord

Chambord National Estate
From September 26, 2026 to January 24, 2027

One hundred and eighty-three pieces of lost silverware, reprinted in three dimensions from sixteenth-century engravings: Chambord has inventoried its tables and recreated four meals, from Francis I to Lady Diana.

50

The supper that Francis I offered to Charles V in 1539. The dinner for thirty guests served under Louis XIV in 1685, during his last stay. The coffee room of Marshal de Saxe, where the coffee, tea, and chocolate arrived. The 1988 gala for Charles and Diana, including Catherine Walker's dress. Four meals, four ways of governing.

What has disappeared, the exhibition recreates. Renaissance and 17th-century silverware, long since melted down, is being recreated through 3D modeling and printing, based on engravings that had preserved its original form. More than six hundred works and reproductions occupy the second floor of the keep, beneath the sculpted vaults.

The exhibition is curated jointly by the Chambord National Estate and the European Institute for the History and Cultures of Food. The seating plan for the 1685 dinner comes from the National Library of France (BnF), annotated in the hand of the Prince of Condé.

Chambord is not the only museum opening its doors this autumn: our regional exhibitions and the châteaux exhibiting provide a complete list. For further dining, there are our gourmet recommendations.
