This weekend: Marik Korus and his porcelain corals
A ceramist for more than 20 years, Marik Korus has gradually developed a veritable ecosystem of organic sculptures in his workshop in Charente-Maritime. By favoring work on porcelain, she reveals all the finesse of its translucent and dazzling white material. His poetic, fragile and elegant works appear as a multitude of mineral creatures with inventive shapes. By modeling hundreds of membranes, waves or wrinkles, they become autonomous and singular beings, whose hybridity suggests a large number of inspirations.
Starting with the rounded and detailed contours of the corals, which Marik Korus discovered thanks to his grandson, who is passionate about the seabed. It is the diversity of these micro-organisms that inspires this meticulous work on the form, with its pure whiteness and without enamel, to preserve its rawest appearance. Some of his works are small oval, striated sculptures to which are added a few black wood shavings, while others appear like fragments suspended by a few strings. All the preciousness of porcelain is there, in this world made of patterns of scales, moss or algae worked by hand. We can imagine the many hours spent digging, rounding and drawing these small pieces connected to a base by coils. And this is everything that fascinates the artist in the practice of ceramics: the multiplicity of possible transformations from a material as complex as porcelain.
In front of its Target Hearts, as you brush your hand against the few suspended petals, you can hear light, metallic sounds resonating as they swing. Their finesse reveals them like precious stones that risk breaking at any moment. An encounter from which we remember the luminous radiance, the elegance of the curves and the precision of the modeling, making Marik Korus a talented ceramist.
If you liked the world of this artist, know that her work is exhibited in Paris from June 7 to 11 during the Révélations show at the Grand Palais Éphémère.
