How can a contemporary artist draw on the roots of our land to deliver a universal message? Wang Keping was given carte blanche to create monumental works here within the Chambord estate, some of which were sculpted in the very heart of the trees of its historic forest. A true calligrapher of sculpture, Keping digs into the flesh of the wood, contours its veins, emphasizes its curves, in an eminently sensual work, nourished by the vital energy of nature. From the hand-to-hand combat with these tree trunks, new works will be born which deliver a message of harmony and love, writing a new contemporary chapter in the history of this Renaissance jewel.
