Hiramatsu Reiji exhibition at the Museum of Impressionisms - Giverny
Impressionism Museum - Giverny
From July 12 to November 3, 2024
A seedling of delicate petals, water lilies in bloom, the reflections of foliage on the water. If you are thinking of Claude Monet, you are not entirely wrong. Hiramatsu Reiji, guarantor of traditional Japanese painting and fervent admirer of the impressionist master, returns here to Giverny, eleven years after his first exhibition in the Temple of the Water Lilies. It was in 1994 that Hiramatsu discovered Monet's captivating compositions for the first time at the Orangerie, feeling a strange echo with the ancestral art he practices: capturing the fleeting nature of nature, capturing the moment in all its ephemeral nature, playing on variations of light to reveal chromatic nuances. These colors are precisely what Hiramatsu makes himself in his workshop in the purest tradition, grinding lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl, earth ocher to develop a lively and contrasting palette. For this exhibition, the Giverny Museum of Impressionisms is exclusively revealing fourteen new screens to us, depicting the theme of the seasons around the water lily pond. Their constellations of repetitive motifs, orchestrated in contemporary ornamental compositions, highlighted with fine waves of gold or platinum leaves, are of unparalleled elegance. In his tireless quest for beauty, Hiramatsu Reiji gives us an intoxicating contemplative work, a call to serenity, celebrating with vital energy the legacy of Claude Monet.
