Women among the Nabis exhibition at the Pont-Aven Museum
Pont-Aven Museum From June 22 to September 29, 2024
1
We know the adage inside out: behind every great man, there is a woman. A rule that does not escape artists. The Pont-Aven museum dares to penetrate the intimacy of the Nabis by studying them for the first time through their wives, mothers, lovers, daughters or mothers-in-law. A way to lift the veil on a little-known part of their work and to place women at the heart of the creative process of this young group of symbolist painters passionate about esotericism. Under the brushes of Sérusier, Denis, Vuillard and Vallotton, the mistresses of the house and guardians of family life rise to the rank of models, muses or muses.
