Chen Jialing exhibition at the Réfectoire des Cordeliers
5
Water flows. Crossing the earth, its flow evokes that incessant flow of life. Born at the confluence of two rivers, Chen Jialing has been observing the Yangtze River since he was little. In Chinese culture, absolute beauty emanates from water. The element becomes an inexhaustible theme for the painter who never ceases to celebrate its presence. The exhibition displays the “three transmutations of water, fire and silk” which run through his work. Polyptych paintings, ink paintings, calligraphies, silk thread tapestries and ceramics fill the Cordeliers refectory, the last vestige of a Franciscan convent.
Did you know?
If the spectacular work of contemporary artist Chen Jailing is exhibited for the first time in France, it is not by chance. Indeed, the exhibition is being held as part of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China, established under Charles De Gaulle in 1964.
