Young duelist, on guard! Incredible adventures, frantic chases and duels of honor... In our imagination, fencing is often associated with a romantic character, foil in hand, booted, and wearing a feathered hat. Based on a 16th century fencing treatise, works of art and historical objects, this warlike exhibition from the magnificent Humanist Library explores different aspects of the combat discipline from the 16th century to nowadays, with the breadcrumb trail of Alexandre Dumas' masterpiece, The Three Musketeers. On the attack!

Did you know? Fencing is a discipline full of symbols. Before starting the fight, the opponents make the sky-life-earth salute: it represents the sky when the blade of the weapon is at the top, life when the shell of the weapon is slipped under the chin, and the earth when it descends towards the ground.
