Embark on a journey to the ends of the world at the crossroads of the Silk Roads. With the complicity of the Guimet Museum, this prestigious exhibition of perfumes from elsewhere spans the centuries, from the Chinese empire of the Han to the Mongolian empire of the Yuan, transporting us to the confines of the Orient to the discovery of unsuspected remains. Our journey begins at the gates of rich trading cities, with the help of photographs or very rare historical and archaeological objects, until we reach remote lands. We continue our expedition around the oases that punctuate the Tarim Basin before approaching a real treasure made of ancient coins, semi-precious stones, Buddhist sculptures and sumptuous ceramic funerary figurines from Chinese tombs. Added to these precious artifacts are rare manuscripts, paintings, bronze objects and sculpted heads, revealing a tiny part of the exchanges of ideas that once circulated between these peoples. Reflecting a millennium of commercial, cultural and religious transactions, this exhibition transcends our imagination around the mythical Silk Roads to tell us another story of the world.
