Exhibition Francis Bacon and the Age of Design at L’Espace de l’art concret

Impossible but true. Is associating the name of Francis Bacon with that of design icons like Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Eileen Gray or André Lurçat a delusion or a dream? Neither. Best known for his tormented pictorial works, the cursed prince nevertheless ventured into the field of furniture with striking modernity and audacity, deeply influenced by the avant-gardism of French design, post-cubism and Bauhaus. Return to the 1930s for an exhibition which promises us improbable revelations, revealing a little-known side of Francis Bacon. His rugs and other pieces of furniture with perfectly drawn geometric lines rub shoulders here with his paintings, painting the astonishing portrait of an ultimately little-known artist.
Around the exhibition...
Nestled in a sumptuous three-hectare landscaped estate, the Château de Mouans-Sartoux offers a fascinating dive into history and architecture. Built at the beginning of the 16th century by Jean de Grasse, it is one of the rare jewels of France to preserve its original triangular plan, evoking a fortress as much as a sanctuary, offering visitors an experience as mysterious as it is majestic. A suspended and poetic moment, between flowering plum trees and tender wisteria.
