A window against time opens at the Drawing Lab
DRAWING LAB
Until September 6, 2026
Since 2017, the Drawing Lab has been taking drawing off the page. Christine Phal founded a philanthropic space there with a simple idea: to let the line overflow, becoming sculpture, photography, video, performance, installation.
The Drawing Factory II extends this intuition on a larger scale. For six months, thirty-two artists set up shop at 61 rue de Richelieu in 1500 m² of studios, invited to create freely, without any hierarchy of medium. At the end of the residency, curator Claire Luna selected fifteen works and rejected the idea of an exhibition confined to four white walls. Instead, she opted for a relocation: the artworks moved throughout the neighboring Drawing Hotel. Lobby, patio, terrace, bookstore, café, corridors, even down to the basement. The boundaries between private and public spaces blurred.
A collective journal circulated in the lobby, inviting readers to contribute and contribute. A fermentation room was set up in the basement. A loaf of bread was baked daily and offered to passersby. A room was occasionally occupied by an artist. Drawing was everywhere, because it was different everywhere.
For Nuit Blanche, a fermentation room was set up in the basement; a loaf of bread was baked daily and offered to passersby. A room is occupied by the artist Boryana Petkova, who will present a performance there on June 6.
Drawing is everywhere, because it is multifaceted. Dana Cojbuc extends her charcoal prints; Tamaris Borrelly moves from sculpture to watercolor on kozo; Merlin Rogeat practices linocut; Louise Dumas covers 150 cm of dry pastel... The curatorial approach aligns with the spirit of Drawing: to step outside the frame and invite contemplation.
