Murakami at the Gagosian Gallery for an XXL exhibition

Enter the deliciously kawaii universe of a contemporary art superstar. For his great return to France, Takashi Murakami is pushing back the walls of the Gagosian Gallery by inviting you to Le Bourget in a huge disused hangar of 1600 m² located just 150 meters from the tarmac. It must be said that the outrageously colorful work of the “Japanese Andy Warhol” takes up space. Known for his naive aesthetic inspired by manga culture, the pope of neo-pop art unveils in this XXL exhibition five monumental pieces including a disproportionate fresco 23 meters long dedicated to the folklore of the Kabuki theater or that of his huge dragon in the sky. with an equally insane size of 18 meters wingspan. If we find on the walls some of his favorite characters like his hilarious flowers with smiling faces, other motifs are to be discovered as with this painting taking up the pixelated aspect of the computer of the 1980s to compose, to the Mike Kelley way, a history of all the major players in the economy, from Adam Smith to Elon Musk. One more proof that Murakami is still and always deeply rooted in his time.
