The exhibition “Do you want my portrait?” at the Calais Museum of Fine Arts
CALAIS FINE ARTS MUSEUM From April 20 to November 3, 2024

“Hypermodern”: this is how current thinkers have described our society and its individuals since the 1970s. In this fast-paced modernity, the relationships we maintain with others are changing profoundly. Who becomes this other? How do we feel about faces and bodies painted, drawn, photographed, sculpted, filmed? From the colorful canvases of Jean Dubuffet to the installations of Annette Messager and the photographs of Philippe Bazin, this protean exhibition offers us around thirty fascinating portraits and self-portraits. A successful interrogation of our gaze and our collective memory, in an era where faces pass before our eyes.
