Chiharu Shiota exhibition in Aix-en-Provence
Vendôme Pavilion and Tapestry Museum - Visitation Chapel
Until October 6, 2024 (Vendôme Pavilion and Tapestry Museum) - Until September 1, 2024 (Chapelle de la Visitation)
This summer, Aix-en Provence invites contemporary art poet, Chiharu Shiota, to visit three emblematic sites of the city for an unforgettable sensory pilgrimage. In the cozy lounges of the Pavillon de Vendôme Museum, works covering all periods of the artist's career are revealed, photographs, sculptures in thread or glass, embroidered canvases, keeping in the background the theme of memory which is so expensive. At the Chapelle de la Visitation, his monumental installation suspends hundreds of children's drawings and letters of gratitude in a rain of red threads, like modern ex-votos linking earth and sky, here and there . Letters of thanks that float in suspended space-time, creating an emotional mosaic of shared gratitudes by uniting beings and words in a common connection. In apotheosis, the Tapestry Museum welcomes a striking tunnel, creating in a sprawling tangle of red threads a passage as protective as a cocoon, as oppressive as a labyrinth, like the reflection of our inner metamorphoses. A delicate and introspective exploration of the human condition, inviting us to an unexpected moment of grace.
