Enigmatic, strange, always intense, Ishimoto's photos immerse us in life scenes that are as powerful as they are intriguing. Between distance and intimacy, mystery and understanding, the photographer creates bridges, in-between spaces which are at the heart of the history and work of the man said to be “visually bilingual”, between his Japanese roots and his past childhood. in the USA. For the very first time in Europe, Le Bal presents one hundred and seventy vintage prints of this key figure in post-war photography. From Chicago to Tokyo, his city scenes are simply captivating. Combining restraint and empathy, the photographer immerses us in paintings of great intensity. With an incisive eye, the artist introduces us to the complexity of the universe while remaining faithful to his roots and to an ancient Japanese philosophy whose aesthetic precepts crystallize the border between two worlds. From objectivity to emotion, from movement to inertia, Ishimoto's photos symbolize this gray zone between the superficial and the deep.
