Le Serpent Noir

Selon une ancienne prophétie amérindienne : « Viendra un serpent noir qui envoûtera les hommes et dévorera la terre ». En s’inspirant de cette métaphore, la plasticienne Cécile Hartmann s’est décidée à filmer la trajectoire des 3000 kilomètres du pipeline Keystone, un oléoduc géant qui transporte quotidiennement plus de 700 000 barils de pétrole depuis l’Alberta jusqu’à l’Illinois, souillant sur son passage les réserves d’eau potable et les sépultures ancestrales des Indiens d’Amérique du Nord. En enchevêtrant divers espaces et temporalités, diverses archives et projections mentales, les œuvres textuelles, filmiques et sonores présentées dans l’exposition deviennent les véritables témoins de cette violence passée sous silence. De visions panoramiques de paysages naturels, nous plongeons progressivement dans des images prises au plus près du sol, dévoilant différentes strates argileuses comme les multiples couches de la mémoire. Par son travail protéiforme, Cécile Hartmann se veut autant archéologue d’un présent dévasté que prophète d’une renaissance prochaine, et nous invite ainsi à penser les tensions géopolitiques et écologiques d’un lieu chargé d’histoire.
