The Medicines of Asia, the art of balance exhibition at the Musée Guimet

As long as there were men, there were battles with the grim reaper trying to take their lives. From these battles was born a heritage that has a name: medicine. If the latter is often summarized in the modern era as a laboratory practice, it is above all an attempt to connect with Mother Nature. A mother whose essence, functioning and virtues are then discovered. It is this sometimes forgotten story that the Guimet museum brings us back to the other side of the Urals to tell us in its new exhibition Medicines from Asia, the art of balance.

This exhibition therefore gives us the secrets of the three great Asian medical traditions: Indian, Chinese and Tibetan. When you discover them, you quickly realize one thing: medicine is far from being just a matter of technique. It is first of all a story, even a myth that is established and transmitted through the ages. This story is enriched by the presence of deities linked to medicine which the exhibition offers us to present. Clearly, medicine is above all a spiritual thing.

This spirituality is accompanied by practices that allow its full interiorization. Thus, the exhibition quickly becomes the ideal pharmacy in that it is both a pharmacy for the body first with the presence of numerous mannequins of acupuncture, medicinal plants and medicines, and a pharmacy for the soul. which makes us rediscover the whole range of techniques and practices aimed at well-being (massages, astrology, yoga, charms and rituals...). All accompanied by various folklore accessories such as amulets and other talismanic clothing.

It is therefore a deeply exotic journey enriched with more than 300 works that the Guimet museum offers us with its exhibition. A perfect encounter with the Asian balance which will perfectly complement the extent of our own genius in the matter, this by bringing a new look to it. There is no doubt that you will come out of it peaceful and full of wisdom...
