Comment notre culture nous façonne-t-elle en tant qu’être humain ? Que symbolisent nos objets traditionnels extraits de leur culture d’origine ? À ces épineuses questions, le Centre culturel canadien tente de répondre, en instaurant un dialogue fascinant entre trois artistes installées au Canada. L’une vient de Chine, l’autre de Palestine, la dernière d’Iran. Toutes ont en commun leur appétence pour l’art, mais aussi leur regard sensible sur la question de l’héritage et des traditions.

Entre hommage et constante remise en question, elles créent à travers des médiums novateurs et profondément originaux, des passerelles entre leur culture d’origine et leur culture d’adoption. Tout y est questionné, sublimé : les arts de la table, la végétation, la calligraphie, les motifs ornementaux... deviennent tous sujets à l’hybridation et à la réinterprétation. Ils s’improvisent tour à tour symboles du déracinement, de la nostalgie du chez soi, de la quête de son identité profonde. Chez Xiaojing Yan, on s’émerveille devant 1364 cuillères en céramique suspendues dans les airs, formant un époustouflant pont à trois arches, tandis que Soheila Esfahani décline en 25 variations le motif délicat d’oiseaux amants sur des assiettes raffinées. Un regard sensible et personnel sur l’expérience immigrante, par celles dont la parole est, bien trop souvent, invisibilisée.
